Introduction

Tessares provides bonding software for the CPEs in order to enable aggregation based on Multipath TCP. The CPE-side software has to be coupled with a Hybrid Access Gateway (HAG).

 

● Flexibility Tessares is a company based on agile principles and try to be as flexible as possible in terms of integration and deployments.

 

● Reuse existing CPE assets Tessares has different deployment options, that allows ISPs to reuse CPEs already deployed in the field (see Two-box options)

 

● Hardware agnostic Tessares bonding software is based on MPTCP Linux kernel implementation, thus can be integrated on most CPEs with a Linux based firmware.

 

● Standardized Tessares bonding software is compliant with Broadband Forum standards (TR-348 and WT-378) for the explicit and implicit MPTCP based hybrid access. The explicit mode is based on the IETF draft of TCPM Converters.

 

Tessares Software Agents

Bonding Agent

The Bonding Agent (BA) is the main software, which is doing the aggregation. It is a TCP <-> MPTCP Proxy that allows to create 2 MPTCP connections based on a single TCP connection between the client and the CPE. The BA has access to two interfaces towards the two different access networks, directly, or through another box.

 

Redirection Agent

The Redirection Agent (RA) is an additional software required for a two-box deployment. It is a set of routing rules required on a box on which clients are connected, but the Bonding Agent is running on another device. It allows to redirect traffic from one access network to the BA then get it back aggregated for the clients.

Two-box

The two-box deployment is based on having a DSL RG and an LTE GW, each with connectivity to their access network. Tessares bonding agent is then running on one of the two boxes.

  • Reuse one of the box already deployed
  • Flexible placement of boxes for DSL access and LTE coverage
  • Boxes connected through RJ45 cable (possibility for WiFi)

 

Option A: only BA

  • Bonding Agent to be integrated to one of the boxes
  • Clients are connected to the box which makes the aggregation
  • Second box is off the shelf
  • Compatible with walk out working (if functionality is available on the firmware)
  • Compatible with backup (if functionality is available on the firmware)

 

Option B: BA+RA

  • Bonding Agent to be integrate to one box
  • Clients are not connected to the box which makes the aggregation
  • Redirection agent to be integrated to second box
  • Compatible with walk out working (if functionality is available on the firmware)
  • Compatible with backup (if functionality is available on the firmware) thanks to RA detection of network failure

 

Onebox

  • Hybrid box with both DSL and LTE connectivity
  • Compatible with walk out working (if functionality is available on the firmware)
  • Compatible with backup (if functionality is available on the firmware)
